WORD FOCUS: PLUGGED IN AND CHARGING UP
TEXT: Isa 44:3 “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:…”
A Swedish company claims to have designed a device that recharges phones using just water. Yes, good old water. The device allows ten hours of phone life per tablespoon of water. Imagine that – a few drops of water and you can talk on and on.
David prayed: ‘My soul thirsts for you … in a parched … land where there is no water … Teach me to walk in the way I should’ (Psalm 143:6–8).
Circumstances were dry for David and his soul was thirsty. (Would his prayer have been different if he was living in luxury surrounded by servants, do you think? Not knowing where his next meal was coming from and sleeping outside every night radically changed his perspective. When life goes well, we can start to think that we’re self-sufficient and forget God, but when we’re running on empty, our souls cry out in thirsty desperation. Prayer, the Church, Bible study, singing praise, meditation and reflection – they’re all designed by God to recharge our spirits. God uses them to pour the soul-quenching Water of Himself into our aching spirits. If we starve ourselves of the charge-up time, we risk a spiritual and emotional (maybe even physical) blow out. Taking the time to replenish yourself in God is vital. Re- assess and activate these areas for constant and continual victory in your life.
Take a look at the verse from Isaiah that’s at the top of today’s reading. Set (at least) 10 minutes aside and repeat it slowly to yourself, over and over. Use that as a re-charge time for fresh grace in your life. Sowing to the Spirit makes life’s journey enjoyable and fruitful.
