WORD FOCUS: FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS
TEXT: Luke 12:15 “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth….”

Kindly listen to this conversation between an angel and a certain man: one day a certain man was talking to an angel. The angel said, ‘What can I do for you?’ The man said, ‘Show me my financial projection in my stock exchange business one year from today. This way, I’ll know where to invest my money and become a multimillionaire.’ So the angel snapped his fingers and out came a statement of the projection journal dated one year in the future. The man flipped the pages of the information, studying the listings and observing which stocks would be high and which ones would be low. In the midst of his joy, tears began to roll down his cheeks. Why? When he looked over the obituary column, there was his face. God is not opposed to you acquiring and achieving things in life. But, He wants you to know that this life can only offer so much, and unless you live each day in the light of eternity, you’re going to waste your time on the wrong things. Studying the market flow in itself is not out of place but, your motive- where and what is your heart depending on. It’s okay to enjoy temporal things, as long as your main focus is on eternal things.
Paul said: ‘My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God’ (Acts 20:24). In some nations for example the UK; if you live up to a hundred years, you may receive a ‘Congratulations’ card from the Queen, signed by her. This doesn’t compare to the ‘well done’ you’ll receive from God for fulfilling the assignment He has given you here on earth. We have to take heed and beware of covetousness in our hearts which the Lord is addressing today, life does not consist in the abundance of the things you and I possesses. Indicating if not checked one can lay up treasures for himself and not rich toward God. Study the parable of the rich fool’s story Jesus gave in a summit held in the gathering of the scribes, Pharisees and His disciples in Luke chapter 12 to grasp the full import of what really matters. Read up these; 1 Jn. 2:15-17, Lk. 9:23-25

MEDITATION: 2 Cor. 10:17-18, Col. 3:2.
