WORD FOCUS: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PRAISE
TEXT: Psalms 8:2 “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger…”
Praising God is no small thing. It puts God to work in your circumstances. While we are magnifying God and pouring our love out on Him, God is busy stopping the enemy. Our text above says God stops the enemy. The New King James version says God silences the enemy. The King James Version says God quiets or still the enemy. I like the picture I’m getting, God stops the enemy and shuts him up. If you’ve been a Christian very long at all. I’m sure you have noticed that the one positive thing that can be said about the devil is that he’s persistent. He persistently tells one lie after another because the Bible says there is no truth in Him (Jn. 8:44). You can count on the fact that anything he says cannot be true because nothing he says ever lines up with the word of God. The devil is a loud- mouthed troublemaker. His whole purpose is to get you to question God’s word so he steal it from you. He wants to get you off course. 1 Peter 5:8 says “the devil is like a roaring lion going about seeking whom he may devour”. But the roaring lion gets stopped in his tracks when he hears the voice of a believer pouring out his or her love on the father. There’s a lot of talk in this day and age about being proactive with our health, nutrition, finance and a host of other things, but the most important place to be proactive is in our praise, when we praise, we enable God to work in our behalf.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat was terrified by the enemy armies coming against him, so he went to God for guidance. God told him the battle was His – not theirs. So Jehoshaphat instructed the people to worship God. Notice what happened. Verse 22 says, “Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord SET AMBUSHES against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated,“ Not one single survived. The people praised, and God did the rest. It will work just the same for you today. Write out the lies that devil is telling you right now, and write the truth of God’s word that will combat it! Praise God with the truth, Praise! Praise! And praise some more, then just when you think you’ve praised enough, praise some more. God will be busy stopping the enemy.
