WORD FOCUS: TRAFFIC LIGHTS
TEXT: Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God….”
If you are a born-again Christian, imagine your spirit as a traffic light receiving signals from the Spirit of God who makes His home in you. His direction is often just like traffic with green, yellow and red lights to alert you so you’ll be able to follow Him into God’s best for your life. A green light, so to speak tells us to keep moving, all is well; it’s a peaceful, velvety feeling in our spirits. A yellow light means caution, not so fast. Actually, to a lot of drivers a yellow light means hurry up before the light changes, but that shouldn’t be the case when it comes to following our inward witness. When the signal is yellow, we need to slow down because there’s a scratch or a hesitancy’ on the inside. Then there are times we sense a red light on the inside, which clearly means to stop; there’s no peace to proceed.
Actually, sometimes we have one signal that changes to another. For example, there are times in life when we begin moving in a certain direction and down on the inside it’s like, yes, this is great, this is right. But as we go further, we sense something is not right. What should we do? Stop! Go back to where there was peace. If we’re born again, we can trust our spirits to lead us because Paul said that we are filled with the knowledge of God’s will.
Where are you filled with this knowledge? In your spirit. Your spirit will know things even when your mind doesn’t have a clue. So learn to have confidence in your spirit who is hearing from the Holy Spirit. He is your Guide inside, and you can trust Him. He knows more about your future than you know about your past.
Today, stop and check down inside. What is the Holy Spirit leading you to do? Are you being signalled with green, yellow or red light? Be sure to obey Him for He is the One you need for life. Jesus has promised that He will be with you always.
