WORD FOCUS: THREE GROUPS OF PEOPLE
TEXT: 1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into is marvellous light:…”
From the time Adam was taken out of the garden until the time of Abraham, there was only one group of people on the earth – the Gentiles. But out of the Gentiles, God called Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and through Jacob (Israel) a second group of people was established by God. They were His chosen people, the Hebrews (Jews). So from this time of Abraham until the time of Jesus, there were two groups of people on the earth.
Group number one was God’s chosen people, His holy nation, and group number two was everyone else. During this time in history, everyone on the earth was either a Gentile or a Jew. When Jesus was crucified and resurrected, He immediately placed His blood on the Mercy Seat in heaven and took His place as the Head of a new group. They were the Church. After receiving Jesus, no longer were they Jew or Gentile, but they became a part of His body, a new creation. Paul referred to this in 1 Corinthians 10:32 when he instructed his followers to give no offense, either to the Jew, or to the Greeks (Gentiles), or to the Church of God. As we stated earlier, all scriptures is profitable for us as the Church, but not every scripture is specifically to the Church. To take a scripture that’s written to the Gentiles and apply it to the church will only bring confusion. Or to take scriptures that are written specifically to the Jews and try to the church will cause error in your understanding.
Without understanding there are three groups of people on the earth today – the Jews, the Gentiles, and the Church and without understanding that all three of the groups are addressed in the Bible, it is impossible to rightly divide the whole Word of God. Paul admonished his protégé to study to show himself approved. You are the Church of Jesus Christ bought by His precious blood, loved and graced to be the best and His Chosen generation. Celebrate your identity in Christ
