WORD FOCUS: STOP, LOOK, LISTEN
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God….”
I have heard people say, I cannot find the plan and purpose for my life. Yet God says in our text this morning He has already revealed His plans to us by the Holy Ghost in us. That means we can know – we already do know – God’s will for our lives. Sometimes we just need to stop, look and listen to recognize it.
The message bible says “…..We haven’t stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirit attuned to His will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works” (Col.1:9) I love that expression because it talks about us becoming attuned to God’s will, and we certainly can fine-tune our spirits to know the will of God for our lives. Remember the old-fashioned car radios back in the days had a knob so a person could turn a little this way or that to zero in on a station and eliminate noisy static. In the same way, we can fine-tune our spirits to hear from the Holy Spirit by praying in the Spirit. It makes us more sensitive to the Holy Ghost and help us make adjustments and tweak our direction as God prompts us.
How often do I have to pray in tongues? First of all, you don’t have to pray in tongues, you get to pray in tongues. And you should pray in the spirit as often as you can, pray in the car, in the shower, cooking, getting dressed, etc, Just Pray! First Corinthians 14:2 says, when you pray in tongues, you’re speaking divine secrets and mysteries to God. Maybe you don’t understand, but God does. How awesome that we can speak to God straight from our hearts, which is how we bring the direction, plans and wisdom that God has imparted in our spirits, into this realm where we can walk it out.
Now share out your heart, the direction you already know God had given you. It will do you good to pull the direction out of your heart and see it in black and white. It will also do you good down the road to look back and see how much more light was revealed to you as you continued to pray.
