LOVE SUFFERS LONG (2)
DAILY BREAD OF LIFE….

WORD FOCUS: LOVE SUFFERS LONG (2)
TEXT: 1Cor 13:4 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;…”
Today we will explore the second part of how love suffers long. As believers we cannot do this on our own so the indwelling Spirit must be active and be allowed to function in us. To love is supernatural. The Helper Who Jesus gave to us should be One giving us the enablement to love in times of dire challenges. Child of God, to bear slander, insults, and harsh criticism requires an extraordinary measure of love. That is God has impacted love to us (Rom 5:5) We are quick to lash out and retaliate in kind against those who abuse us. Our suffering threshold is low as humans but, we must look to Christ Himself as the perfect model of long-suffering in the face of such abuse.
In the first place, we must recognize that much of the criticism we receive, though painful, is not slander because we richly deserve it though, but such was not true of Christ. Every criticism leveled against Him was slanderous because He was sinless. The attacks on His character had no legitimate foundation in fact. Throughout His ministry, He was subjected to false charges. Certainly no person in history was more libeled than was Jesus, yet He was willing to lose His reputation for the benefit of His people. He suffered frequently in silence as His enemies did everything in their power to destroy His good name.
This suffering was foreshadowed in Isaiah: “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth….. so He opened not His mouth” (53:7). In this regard, Jesus not only displayed a perfect human example of long-suffering, but also modeled for us the long-suffering of God. Love proves sonship.(Eph 5:1-2) Dear follower of Christ, yes you can do same because greater is He that is in you than any work of the flesh. Those in the flesh cannot please God.
