TEXT: 1st Cor 13:6 “…does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth…”

Contrary to rejoicing in evil, Love boldly rejoices in the Truth. Beloved still in the present continuous, it is on -going. Truth therefore means the true facts about something rather than the things that have been invented or guessed. In this case, we see the inseparable link between love and truth. God is not only truth. We cannot love Him and at the same time despise the truth or consider truth of no great significance in our relationship with Him.
During apostle Paul ‘s trials before Pontius Pilate, Jesus engaged in a discussion about truth: (John 18:33-38)Verse 37-38 buttresses this …. Jesus answered, ‘’You say that I am a King. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come in to the world- to witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice’’…….
It is striking that the reason Jesus gave for His incarnation was to bear witness to the truth. This was well beyond the mind of Pilate, who obviously had no idea of what Jesus was saying. Jesus gave other reasons for coming to this planet such as to seek and to save those who were lost (Luke 19:10) and to give us abundant life (John 10:10). But these expressions are consistent with His assertion that He came to bear witness to the truth.. it was His own commitment to truth that urged Him to fulfill all righteousness. His love for the father was manifest in His unwavering desire to live by every word that proceeded from the mouth of God. He loved the truth because He loved His father, who is the Author of all truth. Followers of Christ can we really love and stand for the truth with the cloud of witnesses around us ?
Satan is the father of lies. He trades in untruth and does everything he can to distort, twist, or conceal the truth. Again it is the suppression of truth, specifically the truth of God, that is primary to our sinful behavior. Paul declared this in this epistle to the Romans: (1:18-25)
At the very beginning of human sin is the suppression of the truth that God reveals to all men about Himself. This general revelation clearly displays the eternal power and deity of God. But fallen human beings do not want God in their thinking they exchange the truth of His power and deity for a lie, which propels the creature into idolatry.
Because natural humans are at enmity with God, they both hide the truth and hide themselves from the truth. God’s truth elicits no joy from them. This is the opposite reaction of the one found in agape. True love rejoices in the truth. It wants the truth to be known and broadcast publicly. It seeks the venue of light for the truth and is not willing that it be consigned to darkness. Truth is basic to life as it is to news reporting; without it there is moral confusion, good things are called bad and bad things are called good. Criminals receive credit for being honourable and honourable persons are treated as criminals .God deserves truth in our inward parts( Ps 51:6) God’s word says ‘’Woe to those who call evil good and good evil(Isa 5:20) Eloquence is never a substitute for TRUTH. God wants us to be True Believers of Integrity. Let us born with passion for loving and living for the truth. Let your light also shine.
