WORD FOCUS: LOVE BEARS ALL THINGS
TEXT: 1st Cor 13:7 “…..bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things….”
We are certainly in the times many can no longer bear all things.Why? Love almost seems to be out of our space today. Some say, we cannot bear this or that again. Wickedness, crime, bloodshedding, bullets on rampage,and a host of other vile things are on the increase. Today God has come to comfort His people. How does love bears all things? The Lord says, a love that won’t let go.How can I give you up,(put your challenge or nation’s name)how can I hand you over, how can I make you like…how can I set you like… my heart churns within Me; my sympathy is stirred… (Hos 11:8) God is love. His love is unfailing. Right now, God’s heart is moved with sympathy towards humans and nations despite their sinful state,hence the pleadings of God for them to seek Him and do that which is right is expedient so that He would not bring judgement if sin continues regarding any person or nation. To be able to do this, we too must keep ourselves continually in the warmth of Christ love- abiding in Christ in order to obey His commandment to love and serve others. Paul says, Love bears all things. Love is an empowerment from God Himself (Jn 15 :5-6) The word to bear suggests to endure, swallow, tolerate suffer, stomach, tough out. Truly Love can do all these.
Love that bears all things carries the idea in Greek of “covering in silence”. The thrust is not that love illicitly covers up evil. Rather, it endures afflictions and suffering without compliant and whining. In New Testament terms, this “bearing” specifically refers to bearing persecutions that come in the wake of fidelity to Christ. It is the consequence of our justification, as Paul declared in Romans (5:1-5), verse 3 says, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that sufferings produces endurance and endurance produces character character produces hope and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us. The Books of Matt 5:10-12 and Rev 2 :7-10 clearly comforts us on how love bears all things
The promises given to the churches include the privilege of eating from the tree of life, the crown of life, freedom from harm from the second death, the hidden manna, and the white stone with a new name on it (vv. 17-18). Finally, the faithful church in Philadelphia is promised the following: (Rev. 3:7-13) These promises drip with the overflow of the abundance of glory that is stored up for the saints who persevere in bearing the afflictions that come with being identified with Christ. They reflect the price tag and the reward of love.
Here are some Scriptural instances we as embodiment of love can;
(a). BEAR BURDENS ( Jn 16:12, Acts 9:15 Rom 15:1)
(b). TAKE RESPONSIBILITY (Gen 43:9, 44:32)
(c). EXERCISE AUTHORITY (Rom 13:4)
(d). PRODUCE FRUIT (Jn 15:2-8), and so on. On a more important level we can boldly say I can do all things through Christ that strenghteneth me because He all makes a way of escape that put their trust and hope in Him. Beloved, it is a win win situation because God never fails .He is always up to something that favours His people. Dependable, Reliable God everything is working out for your good.
