WORD FOCUS: LED BY THE SPIRIT

TEXT:  Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God…..”

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labour for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard-pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account”.(Phil.1:21-24). Here the apostle Paul is talking about how his flesh is nothing more than the place where his real person, his inward man, his spirit, resides. Your flesh is just your flesh (your body), it is not the real you. However, your flesh will be renewed someday and become a part of the real you.  Man has an advantage over the animals, remember, men, are three-part beings. Have you ever heard an animal pray? Have you ever heard an animal sing worship songs to the Lord? {Am not talking about the cartoons children watch were technology has made it look like animals talk}, never! Animals have a body and they have a soul, but they don’t have a spirit. Man (spirit, soul and body) can be led by the spirit.

Romans 8:14, 16 says “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God….The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God”. We don’t become the Spirit of God, the Spirit of God resides within us. There are some people who are confused about this, you have a spirit that has been made new, that has become a new creation in Christ, and the Spirit of God resides within you. Your spirit will not tell you to do something wrong because it is born of God and has the nature of God. If you have a problem in your life and you don’t know what to do, you can get alone with God [your Father] and you will find the Spirit of God will instruct you, guide and direct you. People who are flesh and soul-driven won’t listen to their own Spirit.

That is why apostle Paul asked the Corinthian church in 1 Corinthians 3: 1,3; it says “Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ……because you are still fleshly”. This translation says “still carnal ‘as ”still fleshy”. Are you ruled by your flesh? Are you ruled by your soul? Some people though Christians are. A carnal or fleshy Christian is led by five senses or their flesh, but a spirit-led Christian is led from the inside and ignores the outside. We need to be ruled by the Spirit of God, and by our own inner man who is born again. Only a renewed, born-again spirit communes with God.
