WORD FOCUS: I WILL SING PRAISES TO GOD
TEXT: Psalms 9:1-2 “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High….”
You don’t have to be a Christian long to know that the devil is out to harass and hinder you whenever he can. First Peter 5:8 says, he is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He doesn’t show up in a red jumpsuit with a pitchfork. If he did, we would know what to do. That would be easy. No, the devil comes at you with symptoms, thoughts, circumstances, situations, and deception; that’s his entire arsenal.
I have noticed the devil especially likes to pester people in the middle of the night in the form of thoughts and fears, saying things like, ‘that pain in probably terminal disease, face it, you are dying. You are going to lose your job. You will go bankrupt and lose all you have. You will never amount to anything. Your spouse wants to leave you. Your children will never serve God”. The devil looks for someone to believe those lies, so don’t let that someone be you. Here’s the good news, when we praise and worship, God comes and when He shows up troubles go. In fact, the enemy is stopped in his tracks as we praise and worship. He has to get quiet and back off. What does praise and worship have to do with stopping the devil and shutting him up? You may ask, everything! When you praise God, negative thoughts have to go. They vanish into thin air because that’s exactly what they are – a puff of smoke. It’s a smokescreen trying to cover up what’s really going on. In this case, a smokescreen will try to cover the truth of God’s Word concerning whatever issue you may be going through.
Try this with me; begin counting to 10 out loud. Start! Now say praise the Lord! Out loud. What happened? Could you continue counting while you said praise the Lord? No! Your brain stopped to listen to the words coming out of your mouth, so next time the devil bombards your mind with thoughts – morning, noon, and night – open your mouth and praise God out loud. You’ll zip the devil’s lip. He will hightail it and run. Our scripture above said, “I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I’m singing your song, Mighty God.”[ message] How about it? Whistle! Laugh! Jump! Sing! God will come on the scene and set everything right.
