WORD FOCUS: BUILD YOURSELF UP – SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY
TEXT: 1 COR.14:4 “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church….”
Many sons and daughters, servants and handmaids believe that when you speak in tongues, you only edify or build up your spirit man. Well, that is only one-third true. Of a truth, speaking in tongues involves the human spirit and the Spirit of God intermingling in which the believer communicates to God directly to God giving expression or utterance at the level of one’s spirit rather than the mind. And also praying for oneself or others under the direct influence of the Holy Spirit apart from the activity of the mind The Bible does not say that the speaker edifies his spirit. No, it says that the speaker “edifies himself”. This means his entire self — spirit, soul, and body. So he who speaks in tongues builds up not just his spirit, but his soul and body as well.
Beloved, if you are feeling emotionally drained or just physically tired from a hectic week, begin to pray in tongues and allow the Holy Spirit to edify you. God’s Spirit in you knows exactly what you need and will freshen and recharge you — spirit, soul, and body — as you yield to Him and pray in tongues.
Beloved, you may not have any symptoms of health issues, but you can still pray in tongues for other areas of need. Start building yourself up today — spirit, soul and body — and enjoy the healing, well-being, power and wisdom that only the Holy Spirit can bring to your entire being because it is used to build up the body in spiritual life. Apostle Paul encourages us to forbid not to speak with tongues. (I Cor. 14:39) It is the will of God at this period to sing, pray, give thanks, praise, or bless in tongues.
